👨🎤"1,500 military troops were deployed by air and land, carrying out tactical control and security maneuvers in the offensive against illegal mining, with the aim of completely destroying the camps, processors and mouths that sustained the illicit economy in the area.
📌During the bombing, 12 hectares were destroyed and neutralized by direct heavy artillery fire, eliminating the enclaves that served as a logistical and operational center for the mining mafias.
🔴 The operation was deployed in the La Chonta sector, Pucará canton, Azuay province, and through joint maneuvers of the @Ejercitoecu and the @ffaaecuador.

"The U.S. Mission in Ecuador is closely monitoring the security situation and increase in violent crime in country, including increased enforcement by the government of Ecuador against criminal interests, several high-profile weapons seizures, and air strikes against drug trafficking vessels in the eastern Pacific.
On October 14, suspected narco-terrorists detonated a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in Guayaquil outside the Nobis Building, near the Sheraton Hotel and Mall del Sol. The attack resulted in one death and 28 injuries. A second, unexploded VBIED was found in the vicinity of the blast.
If both vehicles had detonated at maximum efficiency as intended, they would have caused significantly more damage and deaths. This incident highlights the growing threat posed by organized criminal groups operating in Ecuador.
The provinces of Guayas, Los Rios, El Oro, and Manabi remain under a state of emergency. Government data indicates a 37% increase in homicides nationwide between January and August 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Violence remains concentrated along drug trafficking routes, particularly in and around Guayaquil.
In response, Ecuadorian authorities have launched a large-scale security operation aimed at restoring public order, reducing criminal violence, and dismantling criminal networks. According to public statements by government officials, the operation includes targeted arrests, and the seizure of weapons and explosives.
Officials have not announced an end date for this operation. While there is no indication that U.S. citizens are the target of criminal activity, all U.S. citizen residents and travelers
should be aware of the changing security environment and increased risk of possible retaliatory action by criminal organizations.
Actions to Take:
Avoid areas with active security operations.
Monitor local media and official sources (e.g., ECU911, Policía Nacional) for updates.
Be aware of your surroundings and practice personal security measures. Follow the instructions of local authorities.
Report emergencies involving U.S. citizens to the U.S. Embassy in Quito or

Tensions between Washington and many countries in the region have been mounting for weeks. The U.S. military has ratcheted up activity in the southern Caribbean, striking vessels in international waters that it has alleged without evidence are carrying drugs. Trump this week called Petro an "illegal drug leader" after the leftist president accused the U.S. of committing "murder" with the strikes...." -

A spokesperson for the US military said on Friday that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the USS Gerald Ford and five destroyers in its accompanying strike group to deploy to Latin America.

“The enhanced US force presence in the USSOUTHCOM AOR will bolster US capacity to detect, monitor, and disrupt illicit actors and activities that compromise the safety and prosperity of the United States homeland and our security in the Western Hemisphere,” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a social media post.
But the deployment suggests a level of military firepower far beyond the Trump administration’s stated goals of combating drug trafficking, and comes as the US takes an increasingly hard line against Caracas, a longtime target of US ire.
The US already has about 6,000 sailors and Marines in the region on board eight warships, now to be joined by the USS Gerald Ford and the five destroyers in its strike group, along with an additional 4,500 personnel. View MoreWED 15OCT25 #Ecuador #ParoDay24 'As the narcos promised, and they delivered:(💣Explosive devices have been detonated on two bridges in Ecuador on routes between the coast and mountains in what the country's interior minister has described as acts of retaliation after a major military operation against illegal miners.
"The line we are pursuing is one of retaliation for what we have been doing in Imbabura (province), in terms of controlling the strike and cracking down on illegal mining," Interior Minister John Reimberg told a press briefing in the northern city of Otavalo.
No injuries were reported and no one has been arrested so far over the explosions. Reimberg said authorities were pursuing the theory that a criminal group known as Los Lobos was behind the attack. The United States designated the group a terrorist organisation following a meeting with Ecuador's president last month.
One of the explosions damaged part of the base of a bridge at the #Cuenca - Girón Route, Reimberg added, while the other explosion only partly detonated. Infrastructure Minister Roberto Luque said on X that he believed the explosive attacks aimed to disrupt traffic.
The explosions follow a major military and air force operation on Monday that destroyed several illegal mine entrances, which the army said were operated by organised crime groups, in an effort to hit one of their top sources of income. Seven people were arrested in the operation.
Reimberg said some of these belonged to a dissident Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) group.
Otavalo, near where the operation took place in Imbabura province, has been the scene of a series of protests organised since late September by CONAIE, Ecuador's largest indigenous organisation, over President Daniel Noboa ending diesel subsidies by decree.
Noboa said the subsidised diesel was being diverted to illegal mining and smuggling operations.
The province has been isolated since the protest began although the government has sought to open up roads by sending aid convoys. On Tuesday, clashes broke out in Otavalo between protesters and security forces.
Indigenous groups reported that at least 50 were injured while the government said 13 military officers had been injured by machetes and firecrackers. Wednesday's explosions occurred just hours after a car bomb went off outside a shopping mall in Ecuador's largest city Guayaquil late on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and several more injured.
A second vehicle containing explosives was found nearby but it did not detonate and was deactivated.
Last week, Noboa was travelling in a convoy in a rural town when his car was attacked by people throwing rocks. The government called it an assassination attempt and arrested five people on charges of terrorism.
CONAIE denounced orchestrated police violence.-
The five people were released soon after when a judge ruled their detention illegal.
Noboa spoke on Wednesday at an event in Guayaquil, where he said criminal groups were seeking to destabilise the government and prevent them from attending to Ecuadoreans' needs.
"We cannot back down in the face of mafias, people who want to terrorise Ecuadorean families," he said.-
