First about my back ground and heart felt belief.
I am an Irish/Italian kid from South Jersey. The most Anti-Gun state in the Democratic controlled Union.
I grew up fiercely patriotic, having lived so close and visited colonial/historical Philadelphia PA.
I like many "Yankees", despised the South, and viewed the South as ignorant and still in holding with its slaver roots!
I like many Northerners found this truth to be so, just by the ignorant observation of the southern whites who maintained the observance of waving the "rebel flag".
Note I did not say the Confederate Flag!
I moved from New Jersey when i was 11 years old, moved to Oklahoma, lived with the Cowboy culture for a year, then moved to Miami Florida for 2 years during the hight of the Miami Vice Pop TV show, then at 14 moved to Pittsburgh PA for a year.
In those three years in the south, I never experienced Southern hatred, nor a bigotry over blacks, like the North so often made us believe!
A year after moving to Pittsburgh, my father and I moved to North Carolina. To me this was the heart of the old South Confederacy and slavery!
When we first started looking for a home to buy, we were looking out in the country. Now I am a city boy and called Philly my home!
Every home flown the rebel flag proudly in their front yard.
As a 15 year old kid, I was sickened by this sight, and with out knowing the truth, believed everyone of those home owners were Secret KKK / white supremacists who maintained the idea of saving the south and collecting their slaves!
As I grew up in the south, i learned who my neighbors are....these people were not racist white ignorant sheet wearing idiots.
But good ol'boys who loved their mud bogging 4x4 pick ups, country music, NASCAR and Basketball!
Hell most of their own neighbors, and near family friends were good honest black folks .
The display of the flag was never about white dominance over blacks, but a clear message to the North and government....That the South will not be governed, and its people will not be subjugated! They were making their point they were Rebels to Northern Conformity!
They wanted to be left alone, Have God in their hearts, a church to go to 3 times a week, a hard earned paycheck by a southern and local owned company. And the freedom to own their guns in order to hunt their prized and ever sought after buck!
After high school, i joined the air force, and later got out on a medical...my love for my nation was even stronger.
I missed the uniform, and loved our nations military history.
My high school history teacher, a little Italian man from Queens New York, convinced me to get into Civil War Reenacting, At first i was not all to sure, especially considering the "team he was fight for"!
But I tried it and fell in love with reenacting!
The Civil War unit was not about all the stereotypes of hillbillies wanting to dress up, get drunk, shoot their guns and scream their rebel yells!
No this was a unit dedicated to the historical accuracy of the North Carolina Soldier.
Marching, drilling, combat formations of the napoleonic warfare of the time!
I learned a new respect for the Confederate Flag, note i said Confederate not rebel flag!
As a historical reenactor / Soldier, I learned a military respect and pride for the Confederate battle flag, the proper respect to be given to it. Most importantly the ability to differentiate the difference of honored respect and blatant display of ignorance, such as what you would find in hate groups!
You would be surprised to find that 99.99% of southerners HATE the KKK, and true "White Supremacist"!
The media, has turned every single white GUN owner in America into a White Supremacist, simply for supporting the Republican party....or holding conservative faith and beliefs!
I live in the South, I am from a strong Italian and Irish Catholic family. I am white, I am a gun owner, I believe in God, and maintain a oath to my Nations Constitution!
I am in no way a racist....however like any good baseball umpire....I call it like I see it, be it black white green or red!
I believe if you do stupid shit, you win stupid prizes!
With the media looking and grasping for any connection to Trump supporting Citizens....you will be labeled a white supremacist!
This is reinforced by the display of the REBEL FLAG at Trump events!
I would like to see an end to the display of the Southern rebel flag....that is being used to express a rebellious attitude toward a tyranical Leftist government!
Our nation was founded on other rebellious iconic symbols!
Gadston flag, green mtn flag, colpepper flag, plea un to heaven flag!
We want to be recognized as patriots....not white supremacists or rebel Confederate wanting to bring back slavery to the eyes of the ignorant leftist!!
Folks, its time we fold old Dixie up, and give her a well deserved rest and place of honor, its time we bring back a flag that truly symbolic to All Americans and "Patriots"!
We want to unite America, not to wedge and devide!
The Betsy Ross Flag is a Great start and symbol for this nation to rally behind!
