When God Laughs
We know that God laughs at the schemes of men, as He knows what will happen to them in the end. But that is a kind of laugh that is not warm, but more one of derision.
But when we get to really know God as our Father and have been learning from Him, the most unexpected response to our actions is a full belly laugh, the kind that says, "I know you know, but I understand that you are still a child".
I had one of those responses the other day. It was the first time I remember such a laugh, as I felt it
reverberate through my heart.
And I understood, as I have felt that same way with our children when they were younger and learning. We would hold it back for their sake, even keeping our smiles that wanted to creep out, hidden. But I can still recall the way my husband would laugh once we were alone.
It was warm, not belittling. There just were no words, laughter was the only thing that worked, even if if was only known between the two of us.
Our life's journey is a learning process. And God deals with us in many ways. Sometimes He needs to scold us. Sometimes He just shakes His head.
And sometimes He laughs, the kind of laugh that we can understand and join in on, as it better emphasizes the point we would have otherwise missed.
I am pretty sure my actions have often resulted in a "behind the doors" laugh, but it was something special to be able to share it with Him, and understand why.
Stay strong! You may feel silly when God laughs at your actions, but it is only something He lets you experience with Him, when you are ready.
