View MoreDecember 28, 2025, the 362nd day of 2025 The Joy that Lasts What the world needs and really lacks is the joy that lasts, that is eternal, that does not depend on circumstances being great. The reason that joy is mentioned so much during the Christmas season is that the coming of Jesus brought the possibility of that kind of joy with Him. But it is easy to lose track of what that joy is, in the wrapping of the season. The Christmas season is full of things to enjoy, be it activities, fellowship, movies, shopping, visiting, going to church and of course treats. But enjoyment comes and goes with experiences. We may have enjoyed something immensely, but then it is over and the enjoyment of it ends. Bur we cannot live a life seeking after things to enjoy. Unless we learn to enjoy the harder tasks, there will always be times of doing things not necessarily pleasant to us. Enjoyment is not joy. The excitement of the Christmas season may make us happy. The anticipation of parties and gifts can fill us with happiness. Being a part of it may make us happy. And there are the blessings that come with giving and with receiving. That can bring us happiness during this time as well. But happiness is not a given. It is a choice. It is one of the most misunderstood feelings of all, because if we do not realize that it is a choice, not a right, it will flitter away and be out of reach. Happiness is grown or destroyed by what we focus on, the good things or the bad, what we have or what we do not have, being thankful or grumbling . Happiness is not joy. The joy of the Lord is a constant. Through good things, through hardships, through uncertainties, it remains. It is unrelated to circumstances. It is an internal and eternal connection to the Creator of all and the Saviour of our soul, Jesus Christ! We will never know true joy until we have repented and surrendered our life to Jesus as our Lord and Master our King. Because it is when we are made new in Jesus, a child of God, that the joy makes it home in us, and takes up residence! Stay strong! Let the joy of the Lord dwell in you through Jesus Christ! NAN
