I have a story I wanted to share. My mom passed away not too long ago, and it has been tougher on me than I thought. I had a particularly bad day yesterday, but I decided to go for a walk; the trail wasn't anything special, but it was harder for me to walk on due to my bad foot and the soft sand. But I trudged on and eventually got to a more solid footing. As I walked around this bend, I first ran into a wild pig or boar; I didn't want to really find out.
After the pig/boar crossed, I kept going, found a fork in the road, and decided to go left. When I got down that leg a bit, I stopped to grab an image; when I turned to continue walking, there was a blue bird on the ground about 5-10 feet from me. I froze and looked at it, and then it hopped up into a tree closer to me; I could've reached out and touched it. It let me move around to my right to get a better angle away from branches. I picked up the camera, put my visible light filter on, and snapped this shot; the bluebird even turned as if to pose for the image and look toward the setting sun.
I wasn't sure how much time I'd have to take this shot I grabbed, but it turned out I could've taken more time. It felt like my mom was visiting me, just me out in this forest in South Florida, and this bluebird showed up right when I was at my lowest yesterday.
The funniest thing about this is that my mom didn't care for the bluejays because they chased the other birds away. But this one landed in front of me, hopped up eye level, let me move around to get a better angle, and looked at the light like it was posing. I talked to it and cried a bit, and when I started to walk away, it flew in front of me and landed at my feet again. Looked at me and then hopped off the trail. I walked past, and it didn't move. It was surreal.
