The was propogated mainly up by the Muslims, who call him "Azaziil".
In other sources, he is just another fallen angel. Specifically, the one who taught is weaponcrafting - and makeup.

Azazel Appears in Leviticus 16, in connection with the Day of Atonement and the “scapegoat.” The text does not explicitly identify Azazel as Lucifer or Satan.
