Stehekin, despite being surrounded by the rest of America, has never been connected to the rest of the United States by road or railway, making it, along with Havasupai Village in Arizona, the only non-island town outside of Alaska completely disconnected from the road network...The only ways to reach it are a 20+ mile hike from the nearest highway, a 2.5 hour ferry ride from the town of Chelan, or by floatplane or private propeller plane. And to add to its isolation, there are no gas stations, no grocery stores, and even no cell service anywhere in town. Why does America's Most Isolated Town exist at all?
