Craven Canyon: A Brief History and UNESCO World Heritage Site Nomination

Craven Canyon has been a place of cultural importance for the Sioux Nation for at least 12,000 years. Due to corporate energy exploration, millions of tons of radioactive material is buried in Edgemont, South Dakota, causing cancers and ecological devastation, as well as desecration of ancient rock art and contamination of sites sacred to the Sioux Nation.Energy giants are again targeting Craven Canyon for uranium exploration, posing the risk of cross-contaminating the underlying aquifers, which can affect the whole region. Capitalizing on outdated laws that disregard indigenous people, important history and ecological importance could be lost forever with widespread devastating impacts.The goal of this video is to nominate Craven Canyon for World Heritage Site designation, recognizing it as an inherently significant site to human and cultural history, allowing international protection.
