When I watched as an adult, I watched some of the same movies. Clumsy effects, plots with more holes than my spaghetti strainer, emoting.
But even still, they could entertain...distract from reality like they were supposed to, entangle one in a rediculous little fairy tale.
What brings this on?
I just watched "Battlefield Earth."
Sure, the monsters, the Psychlons, were ludicrous caricatures of a bad guy. The acting was over the top.
And, come on, people wouldn't change so quick. Not a 1000 years in the future. Not today.
Humans would not have lost all technology in a century. They would know their ancestors had built the old ruins. That the Psychlons (corniest name ever?) had come from space. Worse, Harriers would be piles of rust in a millennium, the fuel (and the training stimulators) erased from existence.
But, for all that, lighten up. It's a movie. A bit of off-the-wall entertainment.
Sometimes it's a bit of fun to enjoy a silly fairy tale.
But if I ever write anything with that many holes in the realism, take away my keyboards.
Have a nice day.
