View MoreSeptember Morning The sky was blue that morning, the kind of blue that feels almost wrong when you know what came next. People kissed goodbye, grabbed their coffee, caught their trains, walked into work thinking they would be home by dinner. Children went to school without knowing they were living through history. And then- everything changed. The towers that once touched the sky became symbols of a wound no photograph could ever fully hold. Phones rang. Televisions stayed on. Names were spoken through tears. And somewhere between “Are you okay?” and “Where are you?” an entire country learned how fragile an ordinary morning could be. And in the sky, aboard Flight 93, ordinary people learned they had a choice. They knew something was terribly wrong. They knew they might never see home again. And still, they stood together. Passengers became brave. Strangers became a team. Fear became courage. They stormed the cockpit not because they knew how the story would end, but because they refused to let terror decide it for them. They gave their lives trying to save the lives of others. And there were strangers on the ground, too, running toward the smoke while everyone else was running away. There were hands reaching through ash and fear, people becoming heroes without ever asking to be. And there were families who waited by the phone for a voice that never came. Twenty-five years can pass, but some mornings never really become yesterday. We remember the ones who left for work and never came home. We remember the ones who ran in when they could have run out. We remember the passengers of Flight 93 who stood together when they were terrified. We remember the families who had to learn how to carry an empty chair. And we remember that before September 11th they were not numbers, not names on a wall, not stories in a history book. They were someone's mom. Someone's dad. Someone's child. Someone's best friend. Someone's whole world. So today, we remember more than the tragedy. We remember the people. The lives. The courage. The sacrifice. The love waiting for them at home. Because time may move forward, but remembrance is how we tell them: You mattered. You were loved. You were brave.
