Stephen Hubbard is home. The 74-year-old retired teacher and Air Force veteran spent more than four years in a Russian prison after being seized in Ukraine in 2022 and sentenced as an alleged mercenary, a charge he always denied. The United States designated him wrongfully detained. President Trump raised his case directly with Vladimir Putin, special envoy Steve Witkoff closed it in St. Petersburg, and Hubbard was released on October 21 with no prisoner swap.On Friday, Trump delayed his departure to host Hubbard in the Oval Office, where Hubbard told him he would not have lasted another year in that prison.Trump called him a very special man who suffered greatly. Another American brought home because this president does not leave his people behind. 🇺🇸
