HAPPY REFORMATION DAY!
October 31, 1517, was the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to a Church door in Wittenberg, Germany.
The Theses were a challenge to the catholic church’s practice of selling indulgences –forgiveness of sins for cash.
The Church and the world were changed forever.
That’s why Lutherans remember this day as the beginning of the Reformation of the Christian Church.
Lutherans were the first Protestants, the first Evangelicals.
Today we have the wonderful legacy of the Reformation that gave us back the truth, power, and salvation found in the Gospel message.
The Reformation brought us the Bible and worship services in our own languages, as well as Sunday schools, kindergartens, and even public education.
It freed us from the spiritual and worldly abuses of the catholic church, but it did much more.
The Lutheran Reformation recovered the central Biblical truth that we are saved, not by what we do, but by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone.
God’s blessings on this day!
