16. God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16, KJV. In chapter 3, Paul explains the qualifications for bishops and deacons, emphasizing godly character, spiritual maturity, and faithful service. He reminds Timothy that the church is the household of God and the pillar of truth in the world. The chapter concludes with a beautiful summary of the gospel, declaring the greatness of Jesus Christ, who was manifested in the flesh, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up into glory. Today's verse is broken down into six parts: manifest in the flesh, meaning Jesus took on human nature, as the divine entered human history as a real person. Justified in the Spirit, meaning the Spirit validated Jesus at His baptism and vindicated Him at His resurrection. Seen of angels, at His birth, in His agony in the garden, and at His resurrection. Preached unto Gentiles, meaning that from Pentecost to today, the gospel message is carried to all parts of the earth. Believed on in the world, meaning Christ has transformed lives globally, and this universal belief is evidence of the gospel's truth and power. And received up into glory, meaning Jesus had witnesses who watched Him ascend bodily into heaven. Practical application for believers: godly character is important, so serve faithfully, guard your testimony, stand for truth, and keep Christ first. Lessons learned:servants of Christ should be trustworthy, Christ is the center of the gospel, a real person, fully God and fully man, and the Savior of mankind. Amen.
