🐾❤️ Corky is a 2 year old dalmatian that's been deaf since the day Wanda and Odell brought the pup home.
It was 19 degrees on a night last November when the wind blew the yard gate open at their farm north of Oberlin, Kansas. Corky went straight into 160 acres of half picked corn.
Calling did no good. Corky has never heard a voice.
Wanda, who's 72, called two neighbors. They called others. By 10:30 there were 63 people at the edge of the field with flashlights, a few of them still in their good clothes from choir practice.
Odell lined them up 6 feet apart, and they walked the rows together with the lights swinging low. They were hoping the dog would see the beams.
At 1:40 in the morning a feed salesman in the middle of the line swung his flashlight down. Corky was curled against a stalk, shaking, with frost on the spots.
The salesman carried Corky 300 yards back to the house without stopping once.
Wanda's neighbor June took a picture from the road around midnight. It's just 63 little lights in a straight line across a black field.
Would you have walked those rows at 19 degrees?
