5. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 1 Timothy 2:5, KJV. In 1 Timothy 2, Paul urges believers to make prayer a priority, offering intercession and thanksgiving for all people, including those in authority. He explains that God desires all people to be saved and emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and humanity who gave Himself as a ransom for sinners. Paul then gives practical instructions regarding conduct in worship, emphasizing holiness, modesty, good works, and God's order within the church. Today's verse states there is one God and one mediator between God and sinful men, the Man Christ Jesus. There is only one true God and one mediator, who stands between humanity, which is separated from God because of sin. Christ is the bridge between God and men; there is no other mediator, human or spiritual, that can fulfill this role. As man, Christ was required to share our nature, so He understands fully our struggles and can represent us. As divine, He has the authority and power to reconcile us to God; this dual nature qualifies Him as the sole mediator. A practical application for believers is that God desires all to be saved, there is one God over all people, and there is only one mediator available to all people. The Gospel and intercession are universal in scope. Lessons learned include that prayer is a priority and should be made for all, including those in authority. God made a plan for all to be saved; Christ gave Himself for sinners as a ransom, and He is the only mediator between God and man. Christian character is important, and God's design for His people reflects His wisdom and order. Amen.
