A FIERY FULL MOON FRAMED BY A DESERT ARCH A huge golden-red Moon rises directly inside a massive natural stone arch, while the surrounding desert glows in deep crimson and burnt-orange light. The alignment makes the rock formation look like a gigantic natural window built specifically to frame the Moon. The Moon can genuinely appear orange or red when it is close to the horizon. At that low angle, moonlight travels through a much thicker layer of Earth’s atmosphere. More of the shorter blue wavelengths are scattered away, allowing warmer yellow, orange, and red wavelengths to dominate — similar to what happens during a sunset.
