9. Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient,1 Timothy 1:9; KJV. Paul instructs Timothy to defend sound doctrine against false teachers who were distracting believers with speculation and misuse of the Law. He explains that the purpose of God's truth is love flowing from a pure heart and sincere faith. Paul then shares his own testimony, reminding Timothy that God's grace transformed him from a persecutor into an apostle. He praises God for His mercy and concludes by urging Timothy to hold firmly to faith and a good conscience while faithfully serving Christ. Regarding today's verse, the Law was not given to the righteous but to those who reject God's commands; it exposes their sins and restrains evil, pointing them toward the need for Christ's saving work. Paul wants Timothy to teach that the Law was not designed for those justified by faith in Christ, living in the Spirit, and righteous—meaning having a right standing with God. The Law was meant to wake up the wicked and turn them to Christ. The purpose of Christ coming to this earth was to save sinners; the only acceptable sacrifice for sin is the blood of the Son of God, Jesus our Lord, Savior, and eternal King. In practical application for believers, the Law is a guide, not a burden, reflecting God's character and showing believers how to live in holiness. The Law is a call to repentance and a warning, showing the need for Christ's redemption. We must walk in honesty before God and worship Him often. Lessons learned: sound doctrine matters, God's Law reveals sin, the Gospel offers salvation, and grace is greater than sin. God transforms lives; worship with gratitude and guard your faith faithfully. Amen.
