Federal agents already walked out of Ilhan Omar’s Washington home with boxes, her phone, her passport, and her computers. Now we know part of the reason they got the warrant. Her sister Sahra Noor’s phone was seized earlier this year. Investigators pulled family text messages off it. Those messages were enough for a federal judge to sign off on the search. Relatives have been subpoenaed. A grand jury in Minnesota is looking at whether the family lied or left things out on immigration paperwork going back to the 1990s. Omar keeps saying she became a citizen at 17 through her father. Investigators are checking whether that age was adjusted so she would not have to apply on her own. She denies everything and calls it political. The agents still left with her passport. Then Barack Obama popped up, right on cue. The second anyone says “birth records” or “naturalization,” he appears like a genie who only grants one wish: defending the paperwork. He called the investigation appalling and insisted she was automatically a citizen at 17. The man who spent years insisting his own long-form birth certificate was perfect suddenly has strong opinions about someone else’s documents. Tom Homan was asked if denaturalization and deportation are on the table. His answer was short: “Of course.” If the evidence shows she or her father concealed a material fact during naturalization, there is a legal path. It is long and tedious. It has been used before. This is a developing story. Charges have not been filed. Facts can still move. What is already clear is that the fraud is not hiding in the fine print.
