Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter and father of two girls who attend Silver Rail Elementary School, was driving home for lunch Thursday when he heard gunshots and saw a gunman enter the building.Giamanco, who has a concealed carry permit, followed 16-year-old John J. Griffin inside and shot him. Griffin had forced entry by shooting locked doors with a pump-action shotgun purchased by his mother. Three children, ages 5, 8, and 11, and a teacher were killed. A 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher were critically injured.Police arrived within minutes of the first 911 call and found the shooter already dead. Giamanco’s brother said he feels guilty that he could not save more children. Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek called the intervention heroic. Authorities credited the bystander’s actions with preventing further loss of life.Reports say Kaylub feels bad because he couldn't save more children. America knows you are a hero, Mr. Giamanco.
