SS-Oberscharführer Friedrich Herzog (1886–1945), a former guard at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, carries the body of a prisoner. He and his colleagues were forced to clear the piles of bodies by the British Military and clean the camp.
While clearing the camp grounds and burying the dead, the SS personnel were forbidden to wear gloves, despite the serious risk of typhus infection. As a result, 20 of the 80 SS guards died.
