The Federalist Papers
Federal agents showed up at Rep. Ilhan Omar's Washington-area home early Monday morning with a search warrant.
By lunchtime, the Squad had already reached for the oldest card in the deck.
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., put out a statement in "fervent support" of her fellow Squad member, and it read exactly the way you'd expect.
"This is a gross abuse of power and the latest in a decade-long, racist smear campaign against a duly elected Black Congresswoman," Pressley said. "Trump is a coward who is weaponizing his DOJ to fuel hate and intimidate his opponents with baseless attacks like these."
Racist. Of course. A search warrant can't just be a search warrant anymore. It has to be a hate crime.
Here's what actually happened. A DOJ spokesperson said Homeland Security Investigations carried out a search warrant that was authorized by a judge and obtained by the Department of Justice.
A judge signed it. That means prosecutors had to convince a court there was probable cause before a single agent knocked on the door.
Sources told ABC News the probe relates to Omar's immigration paperwork. And President Trump said he had no involvement in the search, even as he called Omar "a terrible person."
But Pressley somehow knew the motive before anyone knew the evidence. Impressive work.
Calling this "weaponization" is especially rich coming from the party that spent all of 2024 dragging Trump through four criminal cases while he was running for president. Democrats called that accountability.
Now a judge-approved warrant is "intimidation."
That's not outrage. That's projection.
Vice President JD Vance has previously accused Omar of immigration fraud, which she denies. She also represents a state still digging out from the Feeding Our Future scandal, where roughly $250 million meant to feed kids was stolen.
Asking whether a sitting member of Congress was honest on her immigration paperwork isn't racism. It's the bare minimum.
Omar has not been charged and has denied wrongdoing. Fine. That's what investigations are for.
But when the answer to every single question is "racism," maybe the problem isn't the questions.
