South Carolina State Rep. Michael Rivers was arrested on October 9 and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, a felony carrying up to five years. The 67-year-old Democrat allegedly pulled a handgun on the uncle of his primary opponent outside a polling place on primary day.
Rivers lost that primary anyway, 53.71 to 46.29. He was booked at the Colleton County Detention Center and released on a $15,000 bond. He denies the charge and calls it politics at its worst.
State police say otherwise. A separate 2022 complaint that Rivers pulled a gun in a land dispute is still an open case.
The party that wants to disarm you keeps getting caught waving guns around. A sitting lawmaker allegedly menacing voters at the polls. Shame.
