13. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Colossians 1:13; KJV.
Paul presents Colossians 1; as of the clearest pictures of the greatness of Jesus Christ in all of Scripture.
Paul thanked God for the faith and love of the Colossian believers and prayed that they would grow in spiritual wisdom.
He then proclaims Christ’s supremacy as Creator, Sustainer, and Head of the Church.
Through His death on the cross, Christ has reconciled believers to God and forgiven their sins.
Paul concludes by emphasizing the glorious truth that "Christ in you" is the believer's hope of future glory.
The main theme Paul conveys is that Jesus Christ is supreme over creation, supreme over the Church, and sufficient for salvation.
In today's verse, we are told we have been rescued from darkness and the punishment of our sins because Almighty God removed us from destruction, having redeemed us through the blood of His dear Son, Jesus.
Jesus is the image in flesh of the invisible God (v. 15).
Almighty God the Father made us partakers of the inheritance of the saints through Christ the Son.
Practical application for life: keep Christ first, and pray for God's will and spiritual wisdom.
Remember who rescued you, and let your conduct reflect Jesus.
Trust Christ's power, rejoice that Christ lives in you, and do not be moved away from the gospel.
Lessons learned: Christ created all things, He is the Head of the Church, and He has reconciled sinners to God by His blood, redeeming and forgiving every repentant sinner.
Christ is the exact image of God, who rescued believers from darkness and destruction.
Grow spiritually, pray, and be filled with spiritual wisdom. Amen.
