It's courgar versus COUGARS A 75-pound cougar had its jaws locked around a woman’s face. Then four women in their 50s and 60s did something almost unimaginable: they attacked the cougar themselves. The five friends were cycling on a remote Washington trail when the cougar lunged at 60-year-old Keri Bergere, knocked her from her bike and dragged her into a ditch. Her friend Annie jumped onto the animal and tried to choke it while another woman grabbed its back legs. The others attacked it with rocks, sticks and anything they could find. But the cougar wouldn’t let go. For nearly 15 minutes, they fought to free Keri as its jaws remained clamped around her face. At one point, Annie even put her hand inside its mouth and tried to pry its jaws apart. Finally, the cougar shifted its bite enough for Keri to crawl away. But the women were still face-to-face with the animal that had nearly killed their friend. They threw a bicycle on top of it and used their combined weight to pin it down. The cougar actually began lifting the bicycle with the women on top of it, but they held on for another 30 minutes waiting for help.Nearby, Keri was badly injured and losing blood. When her friends called out to see if she was still with them, she raised a bloody thumb into the air.Keri survived despite multiple jaw fractures and serious injuries. The four women who saved her were later awarded the Carnegie Medal for heroism. That kind of friendship deserves to be seen. 💙
