17. That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith. Ephesians 3:17; KJV. In chapter 3, Paul explains the mystery that Gentiles and Jews are united in one body through faith in Jesus Christ. Paul describes his God-given ministry to proclaim this truth and prays for believers to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit, rooted in love, and able to grasp the immeasurable love of Christ. The chapter concludes with a magnificent declaration that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, according to His power working within us. Regarding today's verse, that Christ would dwell in our hearts, the Greek word katoikeo means to settle down or be at home; Paul wants Christ to be fully at home in every area of our lives, and for us to be rooted in Christ like a strong tree, with Him as the foundation of our Christian living. In practical application, God's plan is for all believers: serve humbly, pray boldly, seek inner strength, and stay rooted in love. Let Christ be at home in every area of your life. The lessons learned are to trust God's power, acknowledge that God's mystery is revealed in Christ, realize that believers can approach God with confidence, understand that Christ's love is beyond measure, and recognize that all spiritual strength comes from the Spirit of the living God. Our purpose in this short life is to bring glory to God. Amen.
