Azerbaijan just pulled the hijab out of its schools. The useful sentence is not “copy Baku.” It is this: no girl in America should be forced into a cloth by a father, a clique, or an imported rule that treats her hair as a public problem. Coercion is the offense. A voluntary scarf on a free adult is a different fight from a child marched into class under family threat.U.S. public schools are not mosques and not churches. They can enforce a neutral dress code, stop parallel sex-segregation demands, and treat intimidation as intimidation. They cannot pretend the First Amendment vanished because another country ran a ban. The American answer is anti-coercion and one civil code — not a national closet police. Sharia-minded politics wants the school to enforce its taboos. That is the part that has no place.America First is the girl who gets a classroom without a second government in the hallway. Protect her from the pressure. Reject the seminar that calls a forced covering empowerment. If a family wants a different rule, they do not get to annex the public school to do it. Azerbaijan made a state choice. Ours is simpler and older: one law, no clerical dress code on a minor who cannot leave. Keep that line and spare the cheap slogan.
