Canada killed 16,499 of its own people through Medical Assistance in Dying in 2024. That is more than the 15,364 Americans killed by gun homicide the same year.Canada has about one eighth the population of the United States. The MAID total still beat the American gun homicide number by 1,135 people.One in twenty Canadian deaths last year was MAID. About 5 percent. Since June 2016, 76,475 Canadians have died under this program.Senator Mike Lee said it straight. "State-administered death is now more common in Canada than gun homicide is in the U.S. That didn't happen by accident."This started in June 2016 as help for people whose death was reasonably foreseeable. Terminal patients. No hope. Pain and suffering with no way out.That is not what it is now.In March 2021 Ottawa opened the law to people with chronic disabilities and other conditions even when death was not coming anytime soon. Health Canada counted 732 of those 2024 deaths as people whose natural death was not reasonably foreseeable.They are now set to open it to people whose only condition is mental illness on March 17, 2027, unless Parliament stops it.An 83-year-old Ontario woman, Brigitte Stegemann, was put to death in July. Her granddaughter says she had already said no because of her Christian faith, then cried that she had made a mistake, and screamed she did not want "the death shot." The injection still went forward.Doctors at the Quebec College of Physicians have said MAID "may be an appropriate treatment for babies suffering from extreme pain."Death is not the only solution for those people.This is pure insanity. This is the government killing its citizens at a huge rate.What was meant to be assistance for terminally ill, no-hope patients in pain became something much different.
