This cartoon is not a joke. It is how a lot of Canadians are living.They have socialized medicine. The wait from a family doctor to actual treatment hit 30 weeks in 2024, the longest on record. In 2025 it was still 28.6 weeks. The Fraser Institute counted about 1.4 million people sitting in those queues. An estimated 105,529 Canadians left the country last year to get treated somewhere else.People who could afford it have been coming to the United States for years. The ones who cannot wait, or get told no.The expense on Ottawa is too great, so treatable conditions get delayed or denied based on general health and age. Then they added medical assistance in dying.It started in June 2016 for the terminally ill. Death reasonably foreseeable. No hope. That is not what it is now.In March 2021 they opened it to people who were not dying. Chronic conditions. Disabilities. The parameters keep expanding, not shrinking. People whose only condition is mental illness are set to qualify on March 17, 2027, unless Parliament stops it.There are already reports of patients changing their mind after the paperwork is signed. Brigitte Stegemann, 83, was put to death in Ontario in July. Her granddaughter says she cried that she had made a mistake and screamed she did not want "the death shot." The injection still went forward.Prime Minister Mark Carney is making it worse. He suspended trade talks with the United States on August 21 and stayed in a trade war instead of signing a deal. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Washington had offered Canada the best treatment of any major exporter. Carney walked. Fifty percent tariffs hit about $20 billion in Canadian goods. He answered with dollar-for-dollar retaliation.A deal still would have given Canada a huge advantage. It would have been slightly more fair for the United States.
