20. I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me. Galatians 2:20; KJV. Paul recounts his visit to Jerusalem fourteen years after his conversion. He presented the gospel he received by revelation, meaning it came from Jesus, to the apostles. He received the right hand of fellowship from them. Paul had a confrontation with Peter, who ate with the Gentiles until the Jews showed up, then he withdrew, not wanting to upset the Jewish Christians. Paul emphasizes that our salvation is in Christ and not Jewish law. Christ paid the price for sin, and the law has no mercy; you are either guilty or innocent. You cannot be saved or justified by the law; it can only be found in Christ. Practical application: do not let anyone add rules to Christ's salvation. Stand firm with Christ, treat all believers equally; when you fail, repent, and return to grace; guilt has no value. We come to today's verse: Paul died to the law so he could live for God. Paul considers himself crucified with Christ; as Christ now lives in him, he now lives by faith in Christ. The lessons learned: the gospel must be protected from corruption; spiritual leaders can fail and must be corrected; unity comes from the gospel, not traditions; courage is needed to stand for truth, even against leaders; salvation is by faith alone, not performance.
