I seriously doubt the Framers ever believed people in their 80s and 90s would be sitting in Congress. It was not meant to be a lifetime proposition. We have a bunch in office right now. A couple of them are ok. Some are really not.Just look at Mitch McConnell. He is 84. He froze in the Senate, had a fall, got pneumonia, and then disappeared for months. People began to speculate he was dead.He showed up last week for a critical vote and needed help to know how and when to do it. A colleague had to lean over and walk him through it. He doesn’t appear to understand what is happening. He is a shell of a human. Then there is Maxine Waters. She is also in her 80s. She gets confused.Nancy Pelosi and Bernie Sanders are in their 80s. Chuck Grassley is in his 90s.One has to wonder why they hang on. Power and money has to be a contributing factor. This job pays well, it comes with a staff, and nobody makes them leave. So they stay long after they should have gone home.Really there needs to be an off-ramp. You cannot run a country this way.Should a senator who needs help knowing when to vote still hold that seat?
