The sudden outrage over restricted White House access for certain networks rings hollow. These same voices stayed silent when a sitting president was deplatformed from the world’s largest public square overnight.
Accountability still matters. Outlets that traffic in fiction instead of facts have no inherent right to privileged briefings in the people’s house. The executive is not required to platform those who treat journalism as partisan activism.
Free speech applies in both directions. If private companies can silence an elected leader, the White House can decide who occupies the briefing room. Selective indignation is not a principle.
