Trail of Tears Commemoration Day
Today, September 16, marked Trail of Tears Commemoration Day.
It remembers the forced removal of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Muscogee, Seminole, and other Native nations from their homelands in the 1830s. Thousands died of disease, starvation, and exposure on the journey west to what is now Oklahoma.
This day honors their endurance and the nations that survived. Remember the history. Support the living communities that carry it forward.
