7 dead or missing women. 5 urns containing human cremains, 2 still unidentified. A homemade laboratory. Containers of unknown chemicals. A 55-gallon drum connected to water lines. An underground sewer line investigators dug up and removed. More than ONE MILLION pieces of digital evidence.
And an adult filmmaker who spent decades creating movies depicting women being strangled, drowned, shot and killed, while also writing about serial killers and disposing of bodies.
This may be one of the most fucked up cases I've ever covered. And the craziest part is that this investigation is unfolding RIGHT NOW.
It centers around a house at 417 West Chew Avenue in Philadelphia and Raymond “R.C.” Horsch, an adult filmmaker who died last year. Police have now identified 58 people in the enormous digital archive recovered from the house. Five women appear in images or videos unconscious, injured or possibly lifeless. Four have been identified, and several women connected to Horsch have been missing for years.
Then there's the video police just described publicly. Investigators say it shows R.C. with a woman who uses narcotics before he gives her money, handcuffs her to a bed and tightens a zip tie around her neck. She becomes unconscious and appears lifeless. Police have been very careful to say they have not recovered her body and cannot yet say definitively what happened to her.
And that's what makes this entire case so difficult. R.C. made films depicting simulated violence and death. Investigators are now trying to determine which of the disturbing things they're seeing were performances, and whether some of them were real.
Meanwhile, women connected to R.C. and this house have disappeared over the years, including Gabrielle Amarando, Amy McHale, Maribel Fresses, Nicole Fusaro and Blair Tonzelli. Investigators have searched the house, excavated outside, removed underground plumbing, seized chemicals that still haven't been identified and recovered five urns believed to contain human cremains. Police believe they've accounted for three of those urns. Two remain unidentified.
And they're nowhere near finished.
The FBI says investigators have reviewed only about 30% of more than one million individual pieces of digital evidence. They're going back to the house with another search warrant later this month, this time using details they've discovered in the videos and photographs to focus on specific areas of the property.
I've been going down this rabbit hole for weeks, but after the latest police briefing, I've decided this case needs much more than a couple of posts or a 90-second video. I'm working on a very extensive Substack deep dive that will start at the beginning and break down R.C. Horsch, his son Eugene, every missing woman connected to the investigation, the house, the films, the writings, the chemicals, the urns, the drum, the digital evidence and what investigators knew before all of this exploded.
I'm also digging into some of the more disturbing claims surrounding this case, including allegations about whether some of R.C.'s films may have crossed the line from simulated violence into actual violence. Those claims have NOT been established, and I'm going to be very careful about separating what we know, what witnesses have alleged and what is simply internet speculation.
Because the confirmed facts are disturbing enough.
