82 years ago, the Germans carried out the Marymont Massacre. Wacław Gluth-Nowowiejski, codename "Wacek," was the last living survivor of that massacre (he passed away in 2024).
He took shelter in a basement. There, sustaining himself on water and raw potatoes, he endured hallucinations, with no sense of time:
– I was completely covered in pus, lice-infested. I didn't have the strength to move. The stench of rotting bodies scared off the SS men who were searching abandoned buildings for hiding insurgents and civilians.

When a Polish woman peered into the basement, Wacław asked her to escort him to Żoliborz.
– Have you lost your mind? Warsaw surrendered long ago – she replied.

It was November 2...
After the war, repressed by the UB. Arrested, tortured, and sentenced by the communists in a show trial to 8 years in prison.
It was a great honor that for many years we were able to be friends with him.
From this place, we send our regards to his beloved wife Anna and the entire family!
