Russia Bans Transgender People From Adopting or Becoming Guardians of Children.Should America do the same? A lot of people online say yes and some say no because it’s transphobic. Russia’s law prohibits transgender people from adopting or taking guardianship of children. President Vladimir Putin signed the restrictions in 2023 as part of legislation that also banned most legal and medical gender transitions. Russia expanded its adoption restrictions again in 2024, barring citizens of countries where legal gender transition is permitted from adopting Russian children.
