Steve Perry has spent decades being extremely private. What he has been doing lately is opening the boxes.
He has been auctioning items from his personal Journey archive - more than ninety pieces that have never been available before, including handwritten lyrics. The kind of thing that normally goes to a collector after somebody dies.
The money goes to Gilead House, a Marin County organisation that houses unhoused single mothers and their children, many of them escaping domestic violence.
An earlier auction of his raised over $200,000 for a musicians' hardship fund.
He is not selling this for himself. He is turning his own history into rent for women who have none.
