Apparently, Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III announced that he will retire at the end of 2026 after seven years leading the institution. His announcement followed months of pressure from the Trump administration, which accused Smithsonian museums of ideological bias and criticized content that focused too heavily on race, gender, slavery, and other divisive subjects while giving too little attention to America’s founding and achievements.Bunch defended the Smithsonian’s approach, he acknowledged that leading the institution had become increasingly stressful, but said the White House dispute was not the direct reason for his retirement.
