17.Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17 (KJV). Paul explains the difference between the old covenant (the law) and the new covenant (salvation in Christ). Where the law had no mercy or forgiveness, Christ brought eternal life, pardon, and forgiveness. The old covenant displayed splendor, magnificence, and majesty, but Christ paid the debt of sin for every believer with His sacrifice; this makes our salvation complete and sure, for the law could only decide guilt or innocence. Christ Jesus has paid the price for sin and has declared every believer not guilty. So, the new covenant is far greater than the old. Christ is the truth that removes spiritual blindness for all who trust in Him. Upon turning to Christ, the Spirit begins to transform a believer into the image of Christ; this is not an overnight experience, but a daily change. The Spirit will guide your decisions and growth, helping you to live boldly for Christ. Allow God to transform you and enjoy the spiritual freedom in Christ Jesus. We come to today's verse: the Holy Spirit is fully God, and where He is, there is liberty. This is not a license to sin, but it is freedom from bondage to sin, guilt, and any punishment ordered by the law. The lessons: The Spirit writes God's truth in your heart; everything we need is supplied by God; the new covenant is life eternal, without condemnation; Christ Jesus removes spiritual blindness; and the Spirit invites Christians to daily experience empowerment to fulfill God's purpose.
