CONSPIRATORIAL GENIUSExploring Alternate Explanations re Ukraine A central pillar of the Russian narrative, in their justifications for their invasion of Ukraine, has been the claim that the Ukrainian revolution that displaced Putin's last puppet there was Not a legitimate expression of public discontent, but an astroturfed CIA operation, created to implant a hostile NATO puppet regime, aimed at threatening Russia. Let's explore that.Keystone Spies?To anyone who grew up when I did, this sounds, at first blush, kind of unlikely. The CIA's public track record during the Cold War was less than stellar. Could the institution responsible for the Bay of Pigs *really* pull such a feat off? However, in recent years, the US espionage apparatus has demonstrated considerable competence. For example, right there in that conflict, they have clearly been reading Putin's outbox from the very start, calling his every move. So an open-minded examination is warranted. 4-D Chess What if? What if the whole Maidan revolution was a CIA op, a Western effort to further impair the fortunes of the Russian Federation - and, at worst case, potentially put nuclear-tipped missiles minutes from the Kremlin?And what if the Russians are correct in their further claims, that their response was not only justifed, and therefor foreseeable, but inevitable (*snap*) IF that's true . . . Then the CIA et al have successfully pulled off an op that has goaded our generational antagonists into a war that erased their Soviet era equipment stockpile, humiliated their military (and thus impaired their arms export business), durably crippled their oil production capacity (in ways that will take decades to recover from), and inflicted an attrition of manpower that pre-existing Russian demographics mean they cannot Evverr get back. In short, they have done, with minimal expense, what the entire Western Cold War era military establishment did not. Damn. So here's to you, possibly existant secret geopolitical masterminds!
