Back when I was a mere tot in Beaumont Texas, we didn't have but 3 TV channels and they signed off at night. We'd get the "TV station test pattern."
At times in the middle of watching something important, the signal would be lost and we'd be staring at the "PLEASE STAND BY" screen.
Ah ...the good ol' days! 😁

You are as old as I am. I was the kid holding the antenna in the middle of the room to get reception. A stack of books and some foil did the trick. Sometimes!
