DID THE WEST KILL GADDAFI TO STOP A UNITED STATES OF AFRICA? 👀For years, one of the biggest theories surrounding the 2011 overthrow and death of Muammar Gaddafi has been hiding in plain sight: that Libya wasn't simply targeted because of Gaddafi's brutal rule, but because he was allegedly challenging the economic and political interests of Western powers in Africa. And supporters of that theory often point to something very specific, Hillary Clinton's released emails. In a 2011 email from Clinton's longtime adviser Sidney Blumenthal, intelligence was shared about Gaddafi's government holding more than 143 tons of gold and a similar amount of silver, along with his plans for a pan-African currency based on a Libyan gold dinar. The email claimed the currency could provide Francophone African countries with an alternative to the French-backed CFA franc and suggested that this was one of the factors influencing French President Nicolas Sarkozy's decision to intervene in Libya. That's where the conspiracy theory takes off.The theory argues that Gaddafi was trying to create a more economically independent Africa, potentially leading toward a unified African political and financial bloc sometimes described as a “United States of Africa”, and that Western powers saw the project as a threat.NATO launched its Libya operation in 2011, eventually helping the rebel forces defeat Gaddafi's government. Gaddafi was captured and killed later that year. But here's where things get complicated. The emails are real. The NATO intervention was real. Gaddafi's plans for African monetary and political influence were real. What remains unproven is the leap between those facts and the claim that NATO's actual motive for overthrowing and killing Gaddafi was specifically to prevent a United States of Africa.Officially, the intervention was justified around protecting civilians and enforcing U.N. Security Council resolutions, while Western governments also openly sought an end to Gaddafi's rule.So what really happened? Was Libya a humanitarian intervention that spiraled into regime change?Or was there a much larger geopolitical and economic calculation behind Gaddafi's downfall? And if the emails were already talking about his gold and plans for a pan-African currency, how much of the story are we still not being told? What do YOU think, legitimate geopolitical history, or evidence of a much bigger conspiracy?
