FOOD . . . OF The GODSRose Turkish DelightExpositionMy old First Resonder jacket developed a tear in the bottom of one the external pockets, meaning I could no longer store my gloves there. So I went looking for a seamstress. These are typically reached through cleaners - most such establishements have one they maintain a business relationship with. However, all the ones I had been using either retired, or got unreasonable. After a time, I decided to try one at the local mall. Now a mall location means high overhead, which of course they have to pass on to customers. So I inquired ahead of time how much the repair would cost. $5. Handed over the jacker, was given a ticket, and departed. Complications I returned on the appointed day - to find the storefront shuttered, with an apologetic sign referencing a family emergency. (grumpy face) I returned two days later, to find the store open - but my jacket still not yet ready. An employee inforned me in a whisper that the prorpietor's fahter had died. I said I'd return the next week. Consololation Returning today, I found the proprietor enmeshed in taking measurements for an alteration job, so had to wait. While I waited, I for the first time noticed the distractions on the fancy little marble table in the waiting area. Books about modelling houses, bottled water, tiny heshy bars . . . and a large, flat tin of turkish delights. This tine was notable to me for being the first I had ever seen with multiple different types/flavors. I selected a red one, which the description on the back called "rose". And dang if it didn't taste like rose! Understandm I don't not habitually eat roses. But I have oft' indulgd in smelling them, and the senses of small and taste are closely related. And my hardware is quite certaib the actual roses were involved. And it was good. The taste and texture were heavenly. So the Consulate will take this opportunity to encourage you, in your daily struggles, to remember to occasionally stop - and Eat the roses.
