Senate Majority Leader John Thune is not on the speaker list for this week’s GOP midterm convention in Dallas. Barrasso (Mr milk-toast) Tim Scott, and Mike Johnson get the main stage. Trump, Vance, and half the Cabinet will be there too. Thune gets the adjacent fundraising rooms. That is not a courtesy. It is the bill coming due. Trump asked him to keep the Senate in session and pass the SAVE America Act before members scattered for August. Thune sent them home. Not enough votes, he said. Then his aligned groups poured tens of millions into trying to save John Cornyn while Trump backed Ken Paxton. After Paxton won, Thune went on TV and told the President his team now needs to “bring resources to bear” on Texas because the majority cannot afford to lose it. You do not get to block the election-integrity bill, spend against the President’s candidate, and then expect the spotlight when the party gathers to sell the midterms. But, Thune doesn’t get it or want to get it! The Senate is the bottleneck. The House speaker is front and center talking about holding both chambers. The majority leader who keeps explaining why the votes are not there is working the sidelines. Voters notice who finds a way and who manages the process. November is not a personality contest between Trump and Thune. It is whether this majority actually delivers America First or spends another two years telling the country the math just would not work. Thune is the loser on this one—big time!
