This may be the most ridiculous and hypocritical thing Gavin Newsom has ever said, and that is saying something.During a Nov. 2, 2025 interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, was asked about presidential ambitions. He insisted he was not currently running, then delivered this gem: “There’s nothing I dislike more than a politician who sits there and lies to you, and we just sit there rolling our eyes, going, ‘Give me a break.’”Give me a break is exactly right. This is the same Gavin Newsom who issued California’s statewide stay-at-home order in March 2020, then backed a statewide face-covering mandate a few months later. Californians were told to stay home, avoid other people, and mask up in most public settings outside the home. Then came the French Laundry.Newsom was caught at a 12-person birthday dinner at the exclusive Napa Valley restaurant, with guests from six households. Photos showed the group seated together in a private dining room, and the Los Angeles Times reported none of the guests were wearing masks in the pictures. Newsom later called it a “bad mistake” and admitted “the spirit of what I’m preaching all the time was contradicted.”That is not a small oops. That is the definition of rules for thee, dinner reservations for me.Now fast forward to the wine cellar mess.Newsom’s Fair Oaks home was listed for $7.5 million, with the listing boasting a 5,000-bottle wine cellar. When asked about it, Newsom said he never filled it, claimed he only learned the capacity from the newspaper, and added, “By the way, I put books in there.”Fine, let’s be precise. He was saying he did not know the cellar held 5,000 bottles, not that he did not know the cellar existed. But then he reportedly insisted, “There’s no wine there. It’s books.”Except even reporting that defended Newsom’s wording noted the Zillow photos showed books and wine bottles, with the books vastly outnumbering the bottles. So we are supposed to believe the man who ran one of the most sanctimonious COVID regimes in America, got caught unmasked at the French Laundry, and now wants to parse wine-cellar semantics, is the guy who hates lying politicians? Please. And this is the man openly considering a 2028 White House run after the midterms. No thanks.
