Giovanni Galante lost his wife on September 11. He has launched a petition asking Zohran Mamdani to stay away from the memorial. Families who still carry that day do not owe a platform to a politician whose record treats American grief as an inconvenience and foreign radicalism as a constituency.
Mamdani’s politics have been defined by socialist economics, hostility to enforcement, and a reflex that frames the United States as the problem in every conflict. A 9/11 ceremony is not a campaign stop. It is the one morning the city is supposed to belong to the dead and the people who buried them. Showing up to collect the optics while running against the country’s basic loyalties is a desecration dressed as inclusion.
Widows and widowers get to draw that line. Elected officials who spend the other 364 days undermining the security state built after the attacks should not expect a reserved seat at the anniversary. Stay home. Let the families have the silence. The petition is not cruelty. It is the last remaining standard around a grave.
