Children who cannot defend themselves deserve a justice system that does not treat their deaths as a paperwork problem. When a mother kills her own sons and a court accepts postpartum psychosis as the reason she should avoid prison, the message is that the diagnosis matters more than the bodies in the bathtub.Mental illness after childbirth is real and families should get help before tragedy. That is not the same as handing out a free pass after the children are already gone. A rare condition affecting a tiny fraction of mothers cannot become the default explanation every time a parent takes a child’s life.If a label is enough to erase criminal responsibility for the worst act a parent can commit, then the same label should raise hard questions about custody and unsupervised care. Protecting kids has to come before protecting a narrative.
