13. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. 1 Corinthians 13:13; KJV. Agape, from Greek, is the highest form of love, charity, its the love of Christ, giving His life for mankind. Paul teaches that whatever gift you have, if it is not used in love, it's worthless. Without love, gifts are empty, sacrifices are hollow, and knowledge is vanity. Everything will fade, but love remains. As we grow in Christ, we put away foolish things, living with self-control, as we mature in Christ. The character of love is explained in verses 4-7. Replace "love" with your name and see if you measure up. Love is an action word. Agape love is not romantic or affectionate; it's self-giving, a life centered on Christ. Love in church life serves others. Love is patient, kind, and truthful in relationships with others. Love guides our decisions, even if their hard. The love of God seeks a renewed heart, so love becomes our natural response. 1 Corinthians 13, calls us to love as Christ loves. The lesson: Love is the measure of our maturity. Gifts are tools; love is the heart attitude that gives them purpose. Faith, Hope, and Love, these three are eternal; love is the greatest because it guides the other two. Amen.
