#news Claims are surfacing that China's building of a hydroelectric facility caused the glacier to collapse that killed at least 750 people & left more than 3,000 missing. #chinaThe glacier collapse on killed people on both sides of the Nepal-China border, with Chinese officials saying claims that construction caused the collapse are false and do not match satellite imagery. 🔸️As of August 30th 7,514 people have been rescued. 🔸️Over 900 of the missing in Nepal were hydropower workers. 🔸️Officials say that a high-altitude ice-and-rock avalanche, not an earthquake, was the trigger. The U.S. Geological Survey initially recorded a magnitude 4.4 earthquake that was later reclassified as a magnitude 5.2 landslide from the collapse itself. #nepalA section of the glacier about 2,000 feet wide broke off and fell about 4,000 feet causing the disaster. Chinese officials and the media say the glacier broke off due to climate change and the construction had nothing to do with the incident - calling the claims 'fake news' However, some claim that the glacial collapse is more nefarious in nature, accusing China of ethnically cleaning the region after their invasion, and using the four rivers (that provide power to billions of people in Tibet and down river countries) as a form of controlling their governments - strong arming nations to become dependent on China. They allege that the climate change movement is a CCP backed movement to aid in accomplishing Chinese imperialism.
