Over the last several years, we've watched a disturbing pattern emerge. In case after case, activists on the left rush to defend, celebrate, or even raise money for people accused or convicted of horrific crimes. Social media fills with hashtags, fan pages, legal defense funds, and claims that the accused are somehow the "real victims." That should alarm every decent person, regardless of political party.Whether it is sympathy campaigns for Lindsay Clancy, fundraising and celebrity treatment for Luigi Mangione, or support networks surrounding other high profile criminal defendants, there is a growing movement that seems more interested in turning accused killers into political symbols than remembering the innocent people whose lives were destroyed. Luigi Mangione, for example, has continued to receive significant financial support through activist-backed legal defense fundraising, even after pleading guilty to federal charges.It is not really about four individuals. It is about a culture that increasingly measures morality by politics instead of right and wrong. Somewhere along the way, too many activists decided that if someone fits the preferred narrative, almost anything can be excused, rationalized, or turned into a cause.That is a dangerous road.Every victim had a family. Every victim had people who loved them. They deserved justice, not for the people accused of harming them to become internet celebrities or political mascots.The Democratic Party was once home to many Americans who believed in law, order, personal responsibility, and basic decency. Today, far too many of its loudest activist voices seem willing to embrace causes that most ordinary Americans find impossible to defend.That should concern everyone, whether you are a Republican, Democrat, or Independent.Does the outpouring of support by so many on the left for criminals and killers signify a deep sickness and moral rot in our culture?
