PLAYING THE NAME GAME Cartoon published 08/31/2026 Presidents have been playing the name game for years. The only new development is that Democrats and a few official Canadians are acting like this is the first time anyone ever picked up a pen. Obama and Biden renamed plenty of things. The biggest one was taking Mount McKinley and turning it into Denali. Trump put McKinley back on the mountain. He also renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. Now Lake Ontario has officially become Lake America on the U.S. side. The USGS already updated its maps. Google followed. Apple is still clutching the old names like they are family heirlooms.That is when the meltdown started. Suddenly renaming a landmark is an international crisis… unless the last guy did it. Then it was “restoring heritage,” “correcting history,” or “long overdue.” Funny how the outrage only shows up when the new name has the word America in it. The truth is simpler. Names change. Maps change. Politicians love a good rebrand. Trump just happens to enjoy doing it out loud, with a marker, and a grin. Trump is the master troll. Canada can keep calling it whatever it wants. New York can keep calling it whatever it wants. Meanwhile, official U.S. maps now say Gulf of America and Lake America. The rest of the scoreboard will catch up one app update at a time.
